Bakehouse Art Complex Lucky You! 5 Event
Las Gringas love good arte! A few weeks back, I made my first trip to the Bakehouse Art Complex (BAC), South Florida’s premiere center for emerging and mid-career artists, for their wildly popular annual art raffle fundraiser, Lucky You!, now in its fifth year. Lucky You! 5 featured the work of more than 70 local artists, live music by AMTRAC, wine, food, and….one of my fave local celebrity host Roxanne Vargas (kinda have a girl crush on her).
The unique part of this event was the art raffle with proceeds going to support the BAC and its extensive year-round programming. We had the opportunity to learn more about one of the Latina artists featured at BAC, Marina Font, and she shared her experience of being a Latina artista in Miami with us.
Originally from Argentina. Marina Font has studied everything from photography to sculpture in Argentina and moved to Miami in 1997 where she continued her studies. She describes her art as “Conceptual fine art photography” and is a proud member of the BAC community. The BAC not only provides her with studios with affordable rent and exhibition spaces but also professional opportunities to continue growing her craft.
For those inspiring aritstas out there, Marina encourages you to follow your instincts and always strive to give your best!
I love hearing about growing artists who are able to find support and community in a large city like Miami…which could be overwhelming. Definitely would love to continue supporting BAC and I hope you will consider it also!
