De Rodriguez Cuba Miami: Nuevo Latino Cuisine

Earlier this month, we enjoyed a delightful dinner at De Rodriguez Cuba on Miami Beach. Since moving to Miami 2 years ago, I’ve had my fair share of Cuban food…but never this way before! This is definitely not your Calle 8 Cuban!  Considered “luxury Cuban,” this restaurant is oozing with class and tucked away inside South Beach’s Hilton Bentley Hotel on Ocean Drive. The namesake of the lugar, Doug Rodriguez, has been dubbed the “Godfather of Nuevo Latino Cuisine,” so we had very high expectations going into this meal!

So that we could try a little bit of everything, we requested the Chef’s Tasting Menu for the table! It definitely was enough for 3 people…so keep that in mind if you are there with a date or small group. Speaking of dates, the location is quite and semi-romantic so really a great place to take your mujer for a special occasion or if you really want to impress your date!

Now for the comida…

De Rodriguez Cuba CevicheSampler

To start we had the Ceviche Sampler…each plate a special and unique experience! At our table we had varying levels of spice tolerance, so we each had our favorite. My personal favorite was the Ecuadorian Shrimp Ceviche that is marinated with tomato, lime, orange and chipotle served with tostones.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself! I’ve got to mention the tasty mojito that we all enjoyed during our meal. It was just the right amount of mint and rum! I will neither confirm nor deny that I had several of these throughout the evening.

Our favorite food of the evening was, hands down, the Cuban Sandwiches on a stick (pictured above and again below), the crispy Cuban Pork Belly, and the crispy Shrimp Chicharron in a spicy aji amarillo glaze (pictured below).

What a great meal! While this restaurant might be a little too pricey for me to frequent (except to pay around $40-50 a person), but it is a great spot for a special noche out! Also, would be a great place to take out-of-town visitors that you want to impress…being able to introduce them to the classic Cuban dishes that Miami is known for but in a upscale and elegant environment.

Keep connected with the Chef’s specials at De Rodriguez Cuba on their Facebook page… but warning: the photos of the dishes will make you water when they appear on your news-feed!
