A Very Latino Celebration!
So, the only thing this gringa loves more than a party…is a Latino party! Soo…I was very emocionada (not excitada) to be invited to celebrate Dia de Reyes with Univision Radio!
The fiesta was awesome! In addition to free food and booze, there was a live nativity and a colorful parade pulled together for this private party. In 3 King’s tradition, the parade was led by the Tres Reyes who came riding up on camels! (Sorry no photos of that, I may or may not have been in line for my free alcohol).
What I loved most about this party, was that it felt like we were also celebrating Miami and I must say, the 305 spirit is really pulling me in…check my gallery for proof 🙂
Fun fotos aside, I did learn some things about this Latino holiday. While Three Kings Day is celebrated here and there across the world, El Día de Reyes really is THE Hispanic holiday. If you think about it, most of the Latin American countries have different Independence Days and I’ve also noticed they even celebrate other holidays on different days (like Mother’s Day), but El Día de Reyes is always on January 6th no matter if you’re in Mexico, Argentina or even España. Here in the States, Disneyland has even joined in on the fiesta and celebrated El Día de Reyes for the first time this year.
I hopefully didn’t say anything too far off, but if you want más on this holiday, I found this article on the Huffington Post pretty interesante.
