Enrique Iglesias’ Catchy “Amigo Vulnerable” Is Our Fave Cover of the Week!
Our favorite cover song this week comes from one of our favorite artists, Enrique Iglesias. It’s a little noticed song off of his 2007 album, Insomniac, and I am willing to bet that you didn’t even know that it was a cover.
When I was in college, my brother worked at a Music store…something that is quickly going extinct as digital releases become more prominent. At the time, his position allowed me access to a lot of music I normally wouldn’t have come across. I’ll give anything a shot at least once, and since he would bring home demos and promotional CDs, my musical spectrum was pretty broad. One day he brought home a CD by a band I’d never heard of called Ringside. They had an alt-rock kind of sound, and I really dug it. All of the songs on the album are pretty great, and it quickly became one of my “go-to” albums for running and working out or just driving in the car. The most popular track of the album was titled “Tired of Being Sorry“. This was in 2005.
Flash forward to 2007, and Enrique releases Insomniac. On the album, you will get two versions of the same song (one English, one Spanish), both are covers of Ringside’s track. I was kind of shocked when I heard Enrique’s renditions. I considered this to be a pretty obscure band, and I wasn’t totally sure they even got radio play. For some reason, the randomness of it made me appreciate Iglesias even more.
Anyway, I pretty much prefer the Spanish version every time, but when Enrique is the one doing the covering, it’s even more of a no-brainer who’s going to come out the favorite. I still have the Ringside CD in my car, but “Amigo Vulnerable” has taken up permanent residence on my iPod.
There isn’t an official video for the Spanish version, but you can hear it below!
