Eva Mendes Stars In Upcoming Film Girl In Progess About Latina Single Mom.
Eva Mendes claims the lead role of Grace, a single-mother who is struggling to maintain her life and keep it together for her daughter…but maybe not doing so well in the process in the upcoming film, Girl In Progress.
The story also center’s around Grace’s daughter Ansiedad, who is trying to instigate her own “coming of age” story, but like her mother’s endeavors, achieving mixed results.
I’m excited about this film for a couple of reasons. First, it is directed by the same woman who brought us La Misma Luna, Patricia Riggen, and it was written by Hiram Martinez. So, the creative force behind the film is primarily Latino. Also, this film is showcasing a lot of Latino talent beyond Eva, like newcomer, Cierra Ramirez as Ansiedad, Eugenio Derbez who is currently feaured on CBS’s Rob, and Raini Rodgriguez as Ansidad’s BFF, Travita. I’m a sucker for good previews, and the one currently circulating for this film definitely plucks at the heartstrings. I am hopeful with Latino creativity being the central force behind this film, and the focus on complex, unique characters will bring a relatable and important narrative to the big screen.
Girl In Progress hits theaters May 11th! You can check out the preview below.
