Ricky Martin Guest Stars On Glee.

I don’t know if Fox knew what it was doing when they lit the greenlight for now uber-hit, Glee, but this show has catapulted to a level of popularity that is astounding, especially for a musical. I’m pretty sure if you threw a rock, the chances are high you’d hit a Glee fan, maybe two. As an avid fan myself, chances are, you might hit me with that rock (and La Roja). As an equally avid Ricky Martin fan and supporter, I am beside myself with (I’m sorry, I can’t help it) glee over the fact that Ricky is going to be a guest starring as a musically inclined Spanish teacher on the show!!!

We Glee fanatics learned in November that Martin would be guest starring, but we’ve heard rumors about other equally exciting stars before. (If someone could please confirm for sure that Pitbull will be guesting soon, that would be great.) So, imagine the delight felt by Gleeks world-wide when tweets from both Ricky and Lea Michele, who plays Rachel Berry, hit the social media sphere confirming beyond a shadow of a doubt that these rumors were definitely true.

Martin tweeted a photo of himself with members of the Glee cast, seen above, along with caption “First day!! :o”. While Lea Michele let fans in on the fact that she’d known the Latin singer since she was 8-years old, and they met on the set of Broadway production, Les Miserables.

So, okay, we know for sure that Ricky Martin is going to be on Glee, and no one is going to take that away from us. Now, let’s talk about the really important part. What, what, what is he going to sing? He is supposed to sing two musical numbers in the episode, and between cast members he can sing with and songs to choose from, there are so many possibilities!

First of all, I really hope we hear at least one of his songs. He just released his amazing new album, Música + Alma + Sexo, last year, and he has a couple songs that could be squeezed in somehow. Lo Nuestro de Mi Vida Eres Tú is light and pop-ish which makes it perfect for the show. Also, its recorded as a duet, so that already figures in one other cast member.

Honestly though, I think it would be amazing if they managed to do Frío. I have this image in my head of Ricky walking down the hallway of McKinnley high, maybe there’s smoke, maybe there’s dramatic lighting, maybe those whips used at his Premios Juventud performance are involved somehow. They would definitely do a rendition of the WyY version, and Puckerman (Mark Salling) and Finn (Cory Monteith) can fill the vocal roles of Wisin and Yandel. It would be so amazing. He’s the Spanish teacher, he can sing his songs in Spanish and that will make complete sense in the plot, right?

I also have the sneaking suspicion that there may be some sort of mash-up which will include a combination of “Livin’ La Vida Loca“, “She Bangs” or “Shake Your Bon-Bon“. Of the three, I feel like “Loca” and “Bon-Bon” are more likely. If I could personally call up the show’s creators and demand a song though, I would have them include my favorite, “Pegate“.

Musings and speculations aside, this Gleek + Ricky Martin fan will be happy with whatever the masterminds behind the show offer up.

If Ricky Martin does a Spanish song on Glee, I can die a very happy Hispanic person. I always thought casting the GOOP-obnoxious Gwyneth Paltrow as the Spanish sub was complete mierda.

Loved your post!
