FOX Adds English Version of “Q’Viva” Competition Series to Program Roster!
Just when you think Jennifer Lopez can’t possibly add anything else to her schedule…she announces an English language version of her brand new competition series, “Q’Viva: The Chosen” has been picked up by the FOX Network. The series was originally launched by predominantly Spanish-speaking networks. So, what will Q’Viva on FOX look like?
As you may already know, Lopez, along with Marc Anthony and Jamie King, visited countries all over Latin America searching for the most talented individuals and groups to showcase. Right now portions of the show are spoken in English. However, Lopez, Anthony and King often speak in Spanish or Portuguese. Reportedly, for these scenes, FOX will simply add subtitles.
We know that FOX loves its talent shows (American Idol, anyone?), and there is no doubt that the move to adopt Q’Viva is financially motivated. However, that doesn’t change the fact that this is huge. There will be a series showcasing the richness and beauty of Latino culture not primarily in English on one of the major U.S. mainstream networks.
Despite the money-making motivations, this still indicates that Networks are more and more willing to take the Latino viewership seriously. Also, its important that the producers (Lopez, Anthony and King) are entrenched in the culture they are aiming to highlight. This simultaneously illustrates the growing presence of Latinos within the industry, not just on the couch, and provides relatable content!
The show will begin airing on FOX on Saturday, March 3rd and will continue in two-hours installments through its finale set for April 3rd.
