Penélope Cruz y Javier Bardem Lead Impressive Cast including Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, John Leguizamo and Rosie Perez, In Upcoming Film The Counselor, Out Oct. 25th.
There really is a lot of the same old, same old when it comes to film and Hollywood, but thankfully, that doesn’t mean that good films don’t get made. Upcoming release, The Counselor, shows all the signs for being just that…a good film. The sheer amount of talent behind this film, from the roster of talented estrellas, to the creative eye of director/producer Ridley Scott, responsible for giving us the cinematic brilliance of such films as Blade Runner and Alien, to author Cormac McCarthy (The Road, No Country For Old Men), alone gives me hope that at an absolute minimum it will be entertaining.
Despite my respect for Scott and McCarthy’s skills and talents, I have to say my excitement for this film is almost entirely centered around what will no doubt be stellar performances from real life married couple, Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem. Over the years, these two have never let me down, whether they’re in big budget Hollywood blockbusters like Bardem’s recent turn as villain in the latest Bond installment, Skyfall and Cruz’s 2011 spot in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, or doing what they do best in lower budget, more cerebral flicks like Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in which they co-starred.
Both have careers that span an ocean with success beyond Hollywood in their home country of Spain, and both have reached the point of being well established. This means they have the luxury of choosing their roles instead of having to take whatever comes their way. When really skilled actors reach this point in their career, things start to get really good, and we can expect interesting, nuanced, and to take the words right out of this film’s marketing team’s mouth, unexpected, performances! Add to this the promise of John Leguizamo and Brad Pitt, two other actors I always enjoy, and what appears to be an unusually complicated and layered portrayal from Cameron Diaz, and I’m really on board.

The Counselor, Plot Summary.
Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott and Pulitzer Prize winning author Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men) have joined forces in the motion picture thriller THE COUNSELOR, starring Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Brad Pitt. McCarthy, making his screenwriting debut and Scott interweave the author’s characteristic wit and dark humor with a nightmarish scenario, in which a respected lawyer’s one-time dalliance with an illegal business deal spirals out of control.
