Pitbull Brings a “World of Betters” to Miami con Western Union.
Last week, I told you all about how I met Pitbull at an event in Little Havana. Well, this wasn’t your typical appearance for Mr. 305 (no Voli or sexy dancers to be seen). So, I feel it’s worth sharing a little bit more about my afternoon with Pit.
The “World of Betters” Campaign by Western Union asks people what they would do with $1,000 to make the world a better place. In addition to an online contest, they also sponsored a handful of local events across the globe with celebrity spokespeople. These celebrities, including Pitbull, hosted live-stream appearances and invited the community, as a way to “give back” to a cause close to their heart. At the event in East Little Havana, Pitbull encouraged creative expression in the youth of this community by renovating a local park. The live-stream then served as a platform for several groups of talented young people (free-style rappers, break dancers, etc.) to express their artistic abilities and take part in some friendly competition for the world to see.
Did Pitbull perform? No…he made it clear that this day was about the community and refused to take the spotlight away from them. So while at first a I disappointed…I must say, I enjoyed this event just as much as one of his live shows. Watching him interact with his fans, laughing and joking with local kids, I was able to catch a glimpse of the real Pitbull–Armando Perez–who hasn’t forgotten where he came from. Sure, he was probably paid a good bit from Western Union to make this appearance, you could tell he was honored to be a part of this initiative and excited to be giving back to his beloved 305. See it for yourself:
