Robert Rodriguez Joins Comcast to Create El Rey Cable Channel.
Robert Rodriguez, the man who brought us El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, and also Spy Kids and Sin City is getting his own cable channel.
This development in the world of cable programming is being jump started by Comcast in an effort to provide more television content aimed specifically at minorities. Rodgriguez’s channel will be called “El Rey” and is aimed specifically at the male Latino viewership (No surprise there with Robert in charge, right? And don’t worry chicas, you’ve got Canal Ella, remember?) The channel will feature a pretty wide variety of shows including comedy, sports, animation, documentary and scripted series… so, basically everything.
The guys over at tuvez.com came up with five great programming ideas that you should definitely check out. My vote personally goes for the Mystery Science Theater with Mexican B movies. I know I’m not a part of the target demographic, um, at all, but I would definitely still watch that!
Robert Rodriguez’s deal with Comcast and the creation of El Rey is further proof of what we’ve been posting about a lot lately: Corporate media’s recognition of the power and importance of the Latino community.
Hear details straight from the source, Rodriguez himself! Indicates El Rey will benefit a lot of folks!
