Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, y Demi Lovato Earn MTV Video Music Awards Noms!

There are so many awards shows out there that sometimes it can be a little difficult to keep track of them all! Yet, try we do, and the current awards show under discussion is the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards! Three lovely latinas, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato y Selena Gomez have earned nominations for their videos! Lopez is featured in the best choreography category for her “Dance Again” vid featuring Pitbull (I’m not going to say much about him here (shocking, I know) because frankly…he didn’t do any choreography…). Lovato scored her nom in the video with the best video with a message category for her “Skyscraper”. Gomez gets her nod for “Love You Like A Love Song” in the best female video category.

Now, it’s never really a surprise when Latina artists dominate at the awards shows that specifically recognize the efforts of those in the Latino media (Latin Grammys, Premios Juvetud, etc.), but it gives me a little extra point of pride when I see artistas that are female…and Latina cleaning up at the mainstream awards tambien. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying that it’s remarkable that they as individuals should do something worthy of recognition. Claro, I know (and you probably know) that these ladies are fantastic…I just love it anytime attention is taken away from the white dudes that dominate the cultural abyss we generally call “the mainstream”…

Anyway, you can check out the complete list of nominations below, and while you’re at it enjoy the three videos from Lopez, Lovato and Gomez!

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Thursday, September 6th in Los Angeles!
