Gringa Favorites: Sushi Samba Coral Gables

Recently, we have been trying to explore more and more the best parts of the city that we love, Miami. This includes the amazing cuisine that is available to us throughout the 305. Saying that, we were very excited to accept an invitation to try out the recent expansion of SushiSambai at their new Coral Gables location. This is the third Miami-area restaurant in the chain (Samba Brands also owns Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill in midtown) and is perfectly situated right off of Miracle Mile inside the Westin Colonnade Hotel.

Given their name, I was expecting an overly sushi experience, but I was totally wrong! The dishes were an exciting fusion of Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian flavors — sometimes in the same dish. For example, many of the signature samba rolls build on traditional sushi by adding tropical fruits and spices. Our sampler of tiraditos y ceviches is pretty much the perfect picture of this fusion! So good…

While the sampler was fantastic, I can easily say that our favorite dish of the night was the Sea bass with Peruvian corn…que cosa más rica! If you don’t eat anything else, you have got to try this plato. Unfortunately, our photo does not do the sea bass any justice!

SushiSamba is known for its signature cocktails, so make sure you come thirsty! I tried out the “Niña Fresa” (because…hello!) which was a yummy mixture of with vodka, strawberry, grapefruit and guava shaken with rhubarb bitters, lime and sugar.

To end the evening, we enjoyed a minimalistic dessert with the perfect combination of chocolate banana cake and vanilla ice-cream. It was a great balance to all the complex flavors from our main courses! Plus, to be honest, we didn’t have much space left in our bellies…so this hit the spot!

In case you haven’t ventured over to the new location of SushiSamba, you should totally check it out! The 6,500-square-foot restaurant features a lounge, two bars, outdoor dining, and an event space. We attended around dinner, but I found out that they also serve breakfast and lunch! Definitely like their page on Facebook as it is filled with enticing photos and even recipes from the chefs!

If you try it out, make sure to send us a tweet and let us know your favorite plato!
