The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan, Shares His Story At Hispanicize

Last week during Hispanicize 2012, I had the opportunity to meet Cesar Millan, recipient of the 2012 Latinovator Award, and hear first hand his inspirational story of success. While I have listened to my share of immigrant stories, each unique in their own way…I was truly intrigued to hear how Millan went from being called “the dog boy” in the streets of Mexico to become one of the most renowned dog trainers and internationally known as “The Dog Whisperer.”

While I must say, he was a little more shy en persona than I expected, once he hit the stage at Hispanicize to share his story, he transformed into the Cesar we see on TV…calm and confident. I was even a little hesitant to make any noise during his chat, thinking he would turn and do his infamous “SSH!” to keep us in check. HA! That would have been funny….

Cesar was born in Sinaloa, Mexico where he grew up working with animals on his abuelo’s farm and at the age of 13, declared to his mother that he would one day be the best dog trainer in the world (pretty bold statement for a jovencito!). When he was 21, Millan crossed the border into the US, speaking no English and with no family connection, but with hard work and determination found success training even the most aggressive dogs and creating the Pacific Point Canine Academy. So, how did he become the host of his own show on cable? Well…after a write-up in the LA Times on his work at the Academy, he was contacted by National Geographic…and the rest is TV history!

Pretty cool story right? Si quieres más, you can dig deeper into Cesar’s world on his website and connect with him on Facebook and Twitter for ongoing updates! Our friends at HispanosEnMiami.com snagged a great interview with him…which you can see below!
